I always like looking ahead, so I would prefer 3.0.x.
It will probably take some time to do a "stable" release
anyway, and by that time 2.6 releases could be considered
as "old" already.
Also, I presume 3.0 kernels will get most attention anyway
from other parties now --- that's where the future is.
During the time it might take to prepare for a stable 3.0 release,
my guess is that we will see new 3.0 releases that address current
problems.
