Hi All:
I am trying to get Linux Vserver guests to run on a Wheezy host. In summary, I get errors when trying to install a desktop (have tried gnome-core & lxde). Have gotten same results trying patching kernel and compiling util-vserver by hand, and using code from http://repo.psand.net/info/.
FYI - incidentally, I may be mistaken, but the util-vserver I have tried from repo.sand seems to be missing the vserver-build scripts so I've used the "compile by hand" approach. Each attempt has been made on a fresh install of Debian Wheezy on the host.
Please note, I can set up a guest, enter, ping google, install ssh, but as soon as I try to install a GUI, get things like the error's shown below (and get these consistently on different test machines). Suspect this has to do with headers and/or hardware...but after I attempt GUI install, it seems to break dpkg and I can't do additional installs.
Q: I'm given to understand this is "doable", but is anyone running Wheezy guests on a Wheezy host with GUI's installed on the guests? It's at that point I get stuck....suggestions on what to try here?
Q: Is there some special Wheezy config I should use for containers (either that I should use when setting up host and/or when using debootstrap for guest)
Q: How to trouble shoot this? I've done some googling on the errors but am not sure this will help...suspect it's a more fundamental issue with Debian Wheezy and containers
Q: Should I switch away from Debian? What Linux distros might be good choices that support Vserver but represent "easy learning curve"?
Any help appreciated! My sense is Vserver is still the best game in town, and are keen to get this working. Thx - senrabdet
