"The reports of kernel-package's death are greatly exaggerated."

i just built 3.0.1-vs2.3.1-pre8 on squeeze using kernel-package and
successfully tested it.

having been affected by lucid's module-assistant's inability to work with
2.6.35 [1][2], i projected that on to kernel-package, searched for potential
problems regarding 3.0, and stopped when i found what i thought was
confirmation. it appears the breakage is limited to the resulting
linux-headers package [3] (which i do use to build out-of-tree modules, but
is not as serious as i originally thought and might have led others to
believe).
