I'd go with 2.6.38 or 3.0, mainly because I use cgroups and resource limiting. OTOH, if resource limiting/isolation can be backported into the VServer patch for 2.6.32, then I wouldn't have a problem with that (I'm thinking of the VIRT_* flags).
