I have had a similar experience with zimbra, but eventually found a
friendly soul who documented the necessary changes in the configuration.

The big P.I.T.A. is that configuration changes has to be reapplied every
time you upgrade the system, be it security updates or version upgrades.
This can be very tiresome in the long run, especially on production
systems where each manual change need to be carefully considered and
monitored.

Zimbra cause a problem because it uses standard open source software
like postfix, amavis and mysql, which all by default rely on 127.0.0.1
for secure operation.
