The 'funky' signs are basically taken from 'ls -F' ( '/' for directory,
'@' for symlinks, '*' for executables. The rest are supplemented ('#'
for hash files, '<num>'/'<min>-<max>' for number of lines in the files).
I think these signs are quite intuitive.
