yep java is excessive and java web stuff is the killer
(resource wise)

hmm, I think that isn't as optimized as it could be ...
I know of http/php/ssh/mail/mysql/postgres servers which
had a memory footprint of about 80MB ... of course it
is a matter of configuration and tuning ...

agreed, and of course, your clients might benefit the most
of some extra memory (quality wise ...)
