Yes, it does ring a bell - big one!
I have still several AMD K6 systems around here for testing purposes
(one is still in every day use as multihead X-Terminal). With the later
2.4 Kernels at least I was not successful in building any bootable
kernel with arch=k6 at all. Try arch=i586 instead.
I never had a time to debug the problem though - may be a gcc OR kernel
problem, but I'm pretty sure it is not a vserver problem.
Don't bother with bzImage for I had newer problems with it on K6
machines.
