I guess nothing, but it does something completely
different, with many nice side effects ;-)

 - dump/restore make a totally independant copy
   where all files are duplicated on inode basis
 - links within the path are preserved as expected
 - sparse files are handled properly

what you meant, was cp -xa (without the l)
   
 - uses a heuristic for sparse files

besides this, I didn't find any noticeable
difference .. except that dump/restore also
works across network *smile*
