I currently do not have the time to look into it,
but I would suggest checking the /etc/nsswitch against
your concept of name service resolving regarding
yellow pages (nis, nis+) and of course /etc/resolv.conf
and your nameservices ... this looks like some
nameservice/portmap issue ...
