Jason mentioned to me (privately) that his vservers were on different
LVM partitions, and I suggested to him that, as far as I know, hardlink
doesn't work across partition, so unification won't work.

Am I right?

Jason, all,
I think the problem you have is lingering mount --bind on proc and
dev/log. Try umount proc dev/log and then try again to remove it.
That will also explain why your copy gets so big. You were copying
the whole random access memory: /dev/kmem :)
